Super Simple Sewing Ideas Edgebrook Covenant Church - Here are some super simple sewing ideas, perfect for beginners -- and fast and easy for advanced sewers! SUPER SIMPLE QUILT Place top fabric and bottom fabric right sides together with batting on the bottom. Top, bottom, and batting should all be the same size (whatever size you prefer). Stitch around all four edges, leaving a gap of approximately 8 inches unsewn. Turn the quilt inside out with the batting now in the middle (some people call this the pillowcase method of making a quilt). Whip stitch the opening closed. Sew top stitching approximately ½ inch from edge all around the edge of the quilt to stabilize and secure all three layers. You are now ready to hand quilt, tie, or machine quilt the quilt. For tied quilts, the ties should be no farther apart than 4 inches and should always be a square knot. Ties should be 1-1 ½ inches long, depending on what you are tying with. If you are hand quilting, try to keep your stitches fairly uniform and smaller particularly if the quilt is for a baby or child. Tiny fingers can catch stitches of thread easily. Always use quilting thread for extra strength even if you machine sew the quilting. |
